September Update
21st September 2022

August was a busy month for the Community Council with the launch of our accessibility campaign.  We spoke to many residents about the issues they faced in accessing local shops and facilities.  Buchan Area Officer Amanda Roe was keen to navigate the town centre using a wheelchair as were Josh Mennie and Anouk Kloppert from Karen Adam  (MSP)  office   The Event was a great opportunity to engage with the public.

The end of the month however saw our monthly meeting cancelled due to the ill health of some of our members.  Having taken the time to take a break and recover we are looking forward t0 getting back on track for our next meeting on the 26th of September.  We are moving the meetings to a new venue at Peterhead Academy Conference Room. We are hoping members of the public will come along.

July meeting update
26th July 2022

Peterhead Community Council met for their second meeting of the year.  There was another packed agenda to go through.  The meeting was attended by several of the local councillors.

The meeting began with updates on Community Council business including the election of Brian Wylie as Vice-Chair and Co-option of Trish McPherson.  A draft constitution was shared with the group which would bring it back in line with the Scheme of Establishment of Community Councils.

Over the last month the group have held discussions with many different groups including Boogie in the Bar, Hospital Homecoming and GREC (Health Champions).  It was suggested that the community council could help recruit volunteers to support these and other groups in the community and to also assist with Community Council events.  The group were reminded of the meeting on Thursday the 29th at the Prison Museum regarding Boogie in the Bar.   A Fundraising committee was also discussed to allow the Community Council to fund their own projects.

The planned accessibility awareness campaign “Let’s talk about Accessibility” is to be held on the 12th and 13th August.  And will be an opportunity for people to tackle the obstacles faced by disabled residents wishing to navigate the town centre.

This month’s residents concerns included asbestos at garages and at the tennis club which is being followed up by Area Office.  Also the issues regarding TWMA smell and noise were raised.  This issue is being monitored but we were advised that it may be nearer the end of the year before the issue is resolved.

The next Community Council meeting will be held on Monday 29th August at Buchan House.

First General Meeting of the Community Council
28th June 2022

Peterhead Community Council held our first general meeting on the 27th of June 2022 at the Rescue Hall.  The group have been keen to be visible to the community so the meeting was live streamed on you tube.  The police report was read by the Community Warden and discussions were held regarding vandalism and also in regards to the school parking situations.

The group discussed possible projects that could be undertaken such as having a premises for public engagement and the possible setting up a charity group and further investigation of these options will be carried out.

The group are keen to have a junior committee which could engage with younger members of the community and allow them to have a say in matters affecting them.

Accessibility is one of our key priorities and the group are planning an awareness raising campaign " lets talk about accessibility" which will feature the opportunity to learn how to manage the Town Centre using mobility aids.

The museum was discussed after a FOI request had confirmed that the building had fell into a state of disrepair.  Again accessibility was mentioned and the group were advised that space was an issue along with costs.  We were advised of the levelling up bid which could see the museum move to a different location.  The group would love to hear your thoughts on this.

Finally the group agreed to adopt two further defibrillators  which were to be funded by the old peoples social club which had recently closed.  There are costs to maintain these and it was agreed that some fundraising should be done to maintain funds for their upkeep.

The meeting closed with the suggestion of a Scottish week float which the group are keen for to raise awareness of the Community Council
